A Recent NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) report shows traffic fatalities higher this quarter compared to previous years.
First Quarter Numbers US-Wide
From January to March, 2021, there were over 8,700 traffic fatalities in the United States. That's a 10.5% increase from 2020. According to the NHTSA:
"These increases in fatalities come even as driving declined...These early estimates suggest the driving patterns and behaviors the agency reported in 2020, which changes significantly from previous years, continue to prevail and that drivers who remained on the roads engaged in more risky behavior, including speeding, failing to wear seat belts, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol."

News4Jax reported in August that Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is stepping up enforcement of traffic laws as fatal crashes rise. According to their estimate, Jacksonville is on pace to reach around 230 traffic death by the end of 2021.
Lieutenant Rich Bouye of the JSO connects many of these fatal accidents to speeding. "I implore you to please slow down." Back in 2019, speeding was a factor in 26% of all traffic fatalities, costing an average of 25 lives per day. Data shows that younger drivers account for more speed-related traffic accidents.
