The driver of a pickup truck was killed when his vehicle flipped after being struck by a sedan that ran a stop sign in the Northside of Jacksonville on Tuesday morning.
Not wearing a seatbelt
At approximately 8:17 AM, a sedan was traveling west on Imeson Park Boulevard. At the same time, a 53-year-old man driving a pickup truck was traveling south on Busch Drive.
The sedan ran the stop sign at the intersection and collided with the pickup truck, causing it to flip and roll over.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the pickup truck was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash.
The 24-year-old man from Palm Coast driving the sedan sustained only minor injuries.
A warning to both sides
Obeying stop signs
It’s not enough to slow down and continue through an intersection. A complete stop is necessary to properly assess traffic from all directions.
Distractions can make it easy to miss a stop sign entirely or misjudge another driver’s speed. Removing distractions helps you:
- notice traffic control signs
- observe surrounding vehicles and behavior
- react appropriately to changing conditions
Wearing your seatbelt
Seatbelts save lives.
According to the NHTSA, seat belts have saved an estimated 374,276 lives between 1975 and 2017.
The University of Alabama reports that traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for Americans between ages 5 and 34—and that up to half of those deaths could be prevented with consistent seatbelt use.
Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the risk of fatal injury, especially in rollover crashes like this one.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash involving a traffic violation like running a stop sign, a Jacksonville car accident lawyer can help you understand your options, investigate the accident, and pursue compensation where appropriate.
